Postcards From Japan Part 1: Matsue

The Matsue Castle (1607-1611)

I had the opportunity to travel to Japan in October of this year. I'll post some of my sketches from Matsue, Kyoto and in-between.

Statue of the legendary Giant Turtle with a pillar on his back to keep him from roaming into town.
"But the most unpleasant customer of all this uncanny fraternity to have encountered after dark was certainly the monster tortoise of Gesshoji Temple in Matsue." Lafcadio Hearn

Matsue is called the Venice of Japan because of its many bridges and waterways traversing the city. This is the Horikawa boat boarding station.
