Each year for one weekend in June, hot air balloon enthusiasts rise in darkness and gather at Keiser Park in Windsor to witness Dawn Patrol. Those who arrive before the 5 a.m. launch watch yard after yard of multicolored fabrics become awakening giants as air compressors work their magic.
Wild applause erupts from the audience as flames light the balloons from within, turning them into huge lanterns with brilliant colors and twirling patterns. Then if the weather is clear, the balloons ascend into the morning sunrise.
