After much discussion among our sketching group about the unusual architecture of this busy cafe across the street from the Berkeley campus, Micaela did some research and discovered it was once a gas station owned and run by the Panhellenic women's group at U.C. to support the Bancroft Hotel next door. Now it's a popular coffee place, known for its bianca mocha.
This looks so refreshing and restful, and slightly like you are on the emerald path! You captured the character of the structure nicely.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing building. You got so much of the detail of it in your sketch. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteAloha, Kate
thanks, micaela and kate. lots of memories of this building from deep, caffeine-fueled discussions there while i was in grad school.
