"This Is What Democracy Looks Like" Show at the Albany Library

Sketch by Vivian Aldridge

The Albany Library (located at 1247 Marin Ave, Albany) is hosting a show, “This is What Democracy Looks Like” by the SF Bay Area Urban Sketchers. These drawings chronicle local unity demonstrations and marches. The sketches, like the events themselves, are part of a worldwide effort to highlight community engagement in social and political action.

The mission of Urban Sketchers is to raise the artistic, storytelling and educational value of location drawing, promoting its practice and connecting people around the world. With a small sketchbook, pencil or pen, sketchers “see the world one drawing at a time.”

The show is open now and runs through the 29th. For information about hours, please visit www.aclibrary.org. Please keep checking this blog and our Facebook Page for updates.

Cathy at the Albany Library

Cathy at the Albany Library.
Initial pen and ink sketch covered with gouache.
Maybe it's not easy to recognize her and the background turned abstract but the initial sketch was so awful that I had to do something to remember the talk and keep the page of the sketchbook. It was a great presentation and it inspired the colorful background.

Sketchcrawl38 and Urban Sketchers Show

It was a great day to get out to draw on the corner of Solano and Masonic and meet fellow sketchers. I loved to see all their sketches at the reception hosted by the Albany Library at the end of our 'crawl. See Jana's post for more details.

The Second Presidential Debate!
Kudos to the Albany  Library for hosting this community event. Even though I never saw her, I was sketching with Micaela. Please see her earlier post.

The post debate discussion let by Prof George Lakoff was engaging, insightful and thought provoking.

The 2nd Presidential Debate at the Albany Library

A community room at the library filled with community-minded people who care—the best! This debate was moderated by Candy Crowley, who did seem that - moderate. Commentator George Lakoff discussed the debate and took questions from the crowd.
