Byway to the Flyway

The Napa River sketching boat tour was a wonderful sensory overload! Napa River history and points of interest were highlighted by our Dolphin Charter tour guide. There were many opportunities to sketch top deck in the elements or below deck at long tables with comfortable seating and large picture windows.

Byway to the Flyway
It was heartening to learn of Fish and Game's 1994 purchase and ongoing restoration of 9,000 acres of Leslie/Cargill industrial salt ponds. Old industrial levees are being breached and important natural habitat is being restored. Native and migratory birds, fish, plants, mammals and invertebrates are returning to these reclaimed tidal marshes and mudflats.

For more information on the history and the future of this area, go to:

Special thanks to Ling Liao, Carol Sutton and The El Cerrito Art Association for the opportunity to join them on this tour.

Rolling On The River

These are my sketches of the river trip described by Sonia in the previous post. Fun easy to sit in one place and have the subjects move past you!

Cruising and Sketching along the Napa River

Fast Train on the Brazos Bridge
The SF Bay Area Urban Sketchers were invited by Ling Liao and Carol Sutton to participate in a Cruise and Sketch outing on the Napa River organized by Joan Primeau and others.. Over 30 painters and sketchers launched out of the Vallejo Ferry area on a Dolphin Carter boat under bridges and past old salt ponds, wetland habitats, island dwellings and WWII historic sites. Thank you Ling, Carol, Joan, all the participants and Dolphin Charters!!
